Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Benefits Adults With ADHD

by Admin | August 15, 2010 | In Health Comments Off

About 4.4% of adults in United States are affected with ADHD. Many of them, in spite of being on medication, continue to experience the symptoms of impulsiveness and inattention. This impairs their lives. A study has been conducted under the leadership of Steven Safren at Massachusetts General Hospital Behavioral Medicine. The study has shown that the most common form of psychotherapy, i.e., cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) gives better results in comparison with relaxation therapy.

The study was conducted on 86 adults. They had already been taking medicines for ADHD even before entering the study. They were randomly assigned with one of the two therapies for ADHD. Researchers verified the diagnosis of each of the adults. They used the criteria from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. The main therapy tested in the study was a form of CBT.

CBT is a form of psychotherapy which puts emphasis on the importance of thinking in how you feel and what you do. It does not exist as a distinct therapeutic technique. There are several approaches to CBT. Some of them are Rational Behavior Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Rational Living Therapy, Dialectic Therapy, and Cognitive Therapy.

CBT is based on the idea that your thoughts cause your feelings and behaviors, and not external things such as people, situations, and events. It focuses on three skill sets. They are problem-solving, reducing distractibility, and dealing with pessimistic thinking and stress associated with ADHD. CBT is based upon the idea that you can change the way you think to feel or act well even if the situation does not. Such an approach of CBT assists the patient in recovering from ADHD.

The study found that the patients who underwent CBT had better outcomes than those who went through the relaxation therapy. The institute has already published a therapist manual and client workbook, which deals with the CBT method in 2005. Both are called “Mastering Your Adult ADHD.” The study is published in the August 25 issue of JAMA.

Wrong diet is the main reason of this disease and you can avert the situation of cancer throughout from your life by giving great weight-age on the healthy and proper diet.

Government health agency prescribes that ones diet should consist of at least 25 to 35 grams i.e., (nearly one ounce) of natural fiber each day which helps in keeping the intestine clean. Suggestion is that one should eat plenty of fruits and vegetables like apples, pears, peaches, grapes carrots, peas, beans, and potatoes. This is noticed that cabbage has natural ingredients in it which helps in reducing the risk of cancer.

The second recommendation is to avoid eating red meat or animal fat in any form. One can always depend upon poultry products and can have fish instead. Drinking low fat skimmed milk and dairy products can be included into our daily diet chart. Diet For Cancer

The function of each organ is different and in order to make each organ function the way it should, injured or exhausted cells should be repaired or replaced. There are many cells that replace as well as repair the dead and damaged cells of the body. This can be done through proper diet.

Throughout the life time the food we eat can influence the chances of cancer. Therefore a person should always be choosy in terms selecting his diet in order to keep him healthy and fit. According to Malignant Neglect, “The high rates of colon and breast cancer in the United States have been attributed in good part to diet.”

Our diet also include fluid intake. Since liquor abuse can lead to cancer, it is recommended that there should be a limit to drinking. Doctors stress on the fact that one should be moderate in terms of drinking. Therefore, it is our duty to take a bold step against cancer and adopt necessary preventive measures to avoid cancer.

If you go to a person who is suffering from any illness, then you would realize the importance of a good and healthy body. Nowadays, the life has become so much mechanical that we forget to take care of our health and physique because of the excessive work load and busy schedule. Most of us have the routine of sitting for long hours in front of computers without any kind of movement.

Even though it’s the part of our work in offices, but we should be very much cautious about the health risks which are posed to us because of such hectic routine. Sitting on the chair for long hours have been reported to cause a great percentage of muscular diseases including backaches, shoulder cramps/pains, knees and so forth. Most of the time our posture is not correct, and therefore we suffer more.

We suggest you to balance your routine by bringing some small changes in your life style. Here are few tips which can allow you to stay fit with your tough work routine;

A. While in office, try to walk for small works like getting a print out, scanning a sheet or making tea. Try to keep the printing and scanning machines in another room or away from your desk, so that you can move little to perform desired action.

B. Go for a walk in the evening for 15 to 30 minutes at least. This will let your muscles get back from the stress and hence you won’t lose your stamina as well.

C. Occasionally walk off to say a “hello” to your neighbor.

D. Use stairs instead of lift especially when you don’t have any urgent task.

The Mesothelioma Compensation Loop Hole

by Admin | May 22, 2010 | In Health Comments Off

There is a trail of documented proof dating back to the 1800’s regarding the dangers of asbestos when extensive mining began soon to be followed by development and production of products containing this harmful substance for industrial and domestic use. In the early 1900’s lung scars began to be found in those who were and had been employed in various facets of this industry.

It is interesting to note that around this same time, insurance companies began refusing to cover medical expenses of victims terming them to have ‘assumed health conditions’. In the modern world, the only thing which appears to have changed in this regard is the rewording of this term to ‘pre-existing conditions’.

As more an more documentation began to surface regarding the dangers and hazards associated with asbestos products and exposure for employees, companies went into the concealment mode. The real truth was hidden from the public by intentional tampering with product labels or allowing products with no labeling whatsoever to pass through quality control.

Employees and company physicians who even hinted at a connection between asbestos and mesothelioma were dismissed. Company executives made a habit of telling employees that the high wages they were receiving made working with asbestos worth dying for. This information also began to appear in employee manuals printed by the companies.

As early as 1972, well known companies began instituting statements of denial. In 1980 Dupont went so far as to require the word ‘asbestos’ be removed from all company literature wherein the wording was changed to ‘irritant’.

As the margin began to tighten for companies involved in the production and use of asbestos in their business, many companies began applying for bankruptcy by filing a Chapter 11 which allowed them to supposedly change their business practices and thereby direct attention away from asbestos. It has been proven that in most cases, the companies continued to produce so called ‘modified’ products.

Along with bankruptcy filings these companies began to exert pressure with regard to mesothelioma cancer lawsuits which were beginning to be lodged. They sought to get legislation adopted to bar restrict complainants to only those with documented proof of exposure with this exposure being limited to workplace origin.

Food is the most essential element of any human being and nobody on earth can survive without eating food. Food is the need of human survival and human beings have to eat food as long as they are alive. In the past people used to have long lives and excellent sharp memories and outclass health. They remained hale and healthy even at their old age. The reason for this was the use of neat and healthy food that showed its results for ages. Moreover, people used to exercise too.  But what the main focus was fresh and healthy food.

Adoption of Bad Eating Habits!

In today’s time emphasis is more on fast and junk food. Why? Because, trend is more towards canned and stored food. People normally go for packed food like chips and candies etc. Even the essentials present in diet for e.g. milk is even available in bottles too. This has adversely affected human life. It is evident from the average age of people that the eating habits are very poor now. People enjoy pizzas, cakes, pastries and chocolates.

Carbonated Drinks-Dangerous for Health

A very dangerous drink is the invention of carbonated drinks. Theses carbonated drinks have simply eliminated the need for juices. Juices on the other hand have more nutritional value and are more suitable for health.

Educate children about their eating habits!

The kids of today are happier eating a big mac rather than any cereal. They are happy enjoying drinks rather than milk or fresh fruit juices. Children need to be educated especially to understand the nutritional values and get them accustomed to the taste of natural products and adapt healthy life style. These products would benefit them in the long run and will help them remain happy and healthy as well as enjoy life to its fullest. The basic is that they need to be educated about the hazards of eating junk food.

One of most popular forms of insurance today is the visitor health insurance. Thanks to the increase in the number of people travelling to various parts of the world, either on professional or personal work, this form of insurance is being most sought after.

There are many risks involved when you travel from one place to the other. The increasing number of diseases and the terrorist attacks that take place at random have put human life at peril. Civil unrests and religious wars also increase the risks when a person travels away from his homeland.

Having a visitor health insurance handy will prove to be beneficial in many ways. This policy is similar to the regular insurance policy we buy. The premium for the visitor health insurance, unlike the regular insurance policy, is dependent on the region you plan to travel to. The type of plan you opt for also has a critical role to play in deciding the premium amount. It is not mandatory for a person to be present when buying the visitor insurance. This means you can buy a policy for your family member or friend even if they are not physically present at the time of purchase.

It is recommended that you purchase this insurance from one of the companies that have services in the country you are travelling to. This will prove to be beneficial if you have to file for claims on your visitor health insurance. It is imperative to buy this insurance from a reputable insurance provider so you can be sure of help when you need it the most on foreign land.

Individuals who do not have health insurance coverage can put their worries to rest with various ‘short term insurances’ that can be purchased. These short term plans are best for those with a limited budget and need to be insured even for that limited time.

Individuals working with companies that do not cover medical benefits, individuals without a job, students etc can choose and make the best of what these short term health insurance quotes can offer. Coverage for an individual can include a plan to cover automobiles or in cases of an injury and medical expenses.

Short term insurance can also be referred to as emergency coverage, as it is apt for a last minute purchase and can help the person use its benefits up to a year. While one avails such a benefit it is equally important to be honest while providing details during its purchase and avoid rejections when it is needed the most.

Another advantage to short term coverage is its cost, highly inexpensive, yet assures one of the benefits in times of crisis. Another highlight to this coverage is it can be purchased for individual above the age of 60, and equally easy on the pocket. Older citizens usually have an insurance plan that is expensive and not too beneficial as it may not cover all their medical needs.

Companies have made good effort for one to check the various offers, compare them and select the right option with limited time spent on the internet. There is no dearth of such information giving one enough reason to purchase this benefit even for a period of 30 days.
